Knowing full well he was headed to the underworld, he made contact with the realm beyond beforehand to obtain a strong position in Hell. The charismatic leader, the charismatic leader the cannibal faction in Hell, promised Alastor he would become “the strongest Condemned Soul in Hell” in exchange for his eternal spirit.
This prompts the question: How is Rosie powerful enough to raise Alastor above all other Demonic Sinners?
“The Rosie and Alastor deal is the initial building block in a much bigger story that involves so much, leading into the third season,” the showrunner states. “Clearly that is an excellent question: How is she that powerful? The answer might be many things, but the revelation is in season 3. I'm very excited for fans to witness it.”
It is uncertain the duration viewers will have to wait for Hazbin Hotel’s third season. The studios have approved the third and fourth seasons, but the creator often notes that animated production is a slow, lengthy process, and subsequent seasons have no release dates yet. Nevertheless, she states withholding on specific information is an important part of keeping season 2’s attention where it belongs.
“The challenge of any kind of deal with infernal beings, or narratives that have mysteries, is giving people just enough information to be like, Something's up here, and then revealing that as we go, and letting that be gratifying,” she comments. “So I am quite eager.”
Questions Answered in Season 3
The creator promises that the upcoming season will tackle the questions fans have been asking, like why the cannibal leader commanded Alastor to disappear for a seven-year period, which weakened his influence in Hell.
“The whole seven years, and the deals these individuals are doing, and all that — it contributes to a larger story,” she reveals.
In the meantime, the origin story episode offers a further look into how the main characters of Sinner Demons looked like as humans, following after seeing another character's historical mortal appearance in episode 2. The creator says that a lot of thought went into the visual creation of these forms.
“The mortal forms of these personas carry great significance,” she notes. “They range from appearing quite distinct from their demon form to seeming almost identical. With Pentious, the initial design we see, there was some internal discussion internally between choosing a design that symbolizes the character, versus going with an option that's very time-period accurate. We leaned toward making something that just felt like it was him.”
She says the primary controversy over the mortal look of Pentious was his lengthy locks: “We were like, ‘Nobody typically had long hair of that style in Victorian-era London.’ But simultaneously, we think the silhouette is so important, and we also just thought he appeared attractive. We were like, ‘This just feels right.’ We kind of provided the rationale that he lived in seclusion, so he just allowed his hair to lengthen. So there's always a way. As we create the human versions of these personas […] it is a very enjoyable process to investigate and determine. I am looking forward for people to view additional of the appearances of the human versions.”
